Ron Abuelo Rum Tour

Image
We visited Pese, located in the heart of Herrera Province and home to Hacienda San Isidro, where the famous Ron Abuelo and Seco Herrerano is produced. Mitzy booked our tickets online and the lunch was included. We left from Casa Mar early in the morning, and the drive took about 2 hours. When we reached there, first thing we noticed were the tall Tamarind and different varieties of Mango trees. Our guide welcomed us and offered drinks and a hat.  Then after a short historical introduction, we saw different steps that are necessary to produce liquor from sugar cane; grinding, fermenting and distilling. We enjoyed the tasting of different types of rum, and rum tasting, for me, was my first experience.  After the tasting of the rum, a traditonal Panamanian lunch was served.  It was very delicious. Before we left, we asked the guide if we could pick some mangoes from the trees. We got carried away and filled few bags with mangoes. Thanks to...

Embera Indian Village Tour

Image
We booked our Embera Indian Village Tour from Expedia. We were staying at RIU Plaza Hotel in Panama City, and the tour operator picked us up at 8am from the hotel. We drove along the Inter American Highway, and  it took approximately 45 minutes to reach the Corotu port of the edge of the Chagres river. The short traditional canoe trip took us to the Embera village, and it was a pleasant ride. Members of the Embera Indian village welcomed us with music to start the tour. After that we had a quick look at the market and took another canoe ride to the waterfall.  On our way back from the water fall to the village, we came across a canoe that ran out of gasoline. Some gasoline was taken from our canoe. But after that they even overtook us. Arriving back at the village, we took a short walk to reach the  Butterfly farm. I gave some chocolates to the village small children, and they were so happy.  Medicinal Fruit Noni I ...

2 Week Winter Break 2017

Image
This winter break trip was special because we wanted to find out about all the Punjabi immigrants who came to Panama to work from 1905 onwards.  We were in the process of making a documentary about Baba Amar Singh Sandhwan. To find more information, I wrote to the Indian Embassy in Panama City, and they suggested that I talk to Rosseta Shahani.  We flew with Sunwing Air, direct flight to Tocumen Airport, Panama City and stayed at RIU Playa Blanca Resort for one week and the other week at RIU Plaza Hotel in Panama city. We met Karanbir Dhaliwal and Sunny Virk, and decided to go to Colon Duty Free Zone and Panama Canal museum.  Jaswant Virk, arranged a meeting to meet Rosseta Shahani. Unfortunately, we didn't find any new information, but it was a good experience.
