Reasons to Retire in Panama - Part 1
Panama is one of the best countries in the world to retire. With its laid back Latin culture, all year round tropical climate, beautiful sandy beaches, lower cost of living and affordable healthcare invites retirees, expats and even digital nomads to Panama.
1. Tropical Weather
Panama's weather can be categorised in two seasons, dry and wet. The dry summer season begins in December and wraps up before the end of April. That leaves April to December as rainy season. The best time to visit Panama is between January to April.
The temperatures vary by region and altitude. The south side of Panama is on the Pacific ocean where day time temperatures rise to an average of 30°C and night time temperatures average to 25°C. In the north of Panama is the Caribbean Sea, and the temperatures in the mountains average between 21°C to 24°C.
We chose to retire in Panama to get away from the cold winters in Canada.
2. Accessibility
There's a direct flight from Toronto and Montreal to Tocumen International Airport, Panama City, David and Rio Hato Airport. The flight is less than 5 hours. You can also fly to 100 nonstop international destinations from Panama via its 3 international airports.
3. Beaches and Mountains
It’s a small country, but there is the Pacific Ocean with wide sandy beaches and on the north and east the Caribbean sea with all of the tropical beaches and rain forests. On the western side near the border of Costa Rica, there are mountains and cooler temperatures.
4. Lower Cost of Living
Cost of living is much more affordable than many other popular destinations, so many expats are moving to Panama. You can live on $1500 to $2500 per month depending on your living standards.
5. Retiree Benefits
Lower cost of living and special discounts for retirees from the Pensionado program attract so many foreigners to retire in Panama.
6. Affordable Health Care
Medical care is of good quality in Panama. Both public hospitals and private clinics are available in Panama, and the doctors in Panama are well trained in USA and speak English.
